CERIA Makes Colorado Beer History

CERIA MAKES COLORADO BEER HISTORY THROUGH DONATION TO PERMANENT COLLECTION OF HISTORY COLORADO CENTER

DE-ALCOHOLIZED WHITE ALE INFUSED WITH THC

New Cannabis Beer Rolls Out Mid-December to Colorado Dispensaries

ARVADA, Colo. (June 12, 2019) – When former Blue Moon Brewing Company brewmaster Keith Villa, Ph.D., retired from Coors after 32 years, he dreamed of making Colorado beer history with the state's first THC-infused craft beer. After a year in development, CERIA Brewing Company's CERIA (rhymes with "area") dealcoholized cannabis beer, a Belgian-style White Ale called Grainwave, sold out within its first four hours. It has since become available in 132 dispensaries statewide, with plans to expand to Nevada and California later this year.

Now Villa's cannabis brew has become a part of the permanent collection of the History Colorado Center, the Denver home of the state history museum. The museum is conducting a contemporary collecting initiative to document and preserve items related to Colorado's historic 2012 decision to legalize the private consumption of marijuana.

Through August 2020 the museum is also featuring Beer Here! Brewing the New West, a comprehensive exhibition tracking Colorado's cultural and economic changes through the evolution of its beer industry.

Recently, Villa, along with his wife, co-founder and CEO Jodi Villa, presented a four-pack of First Release Grainwave to James S. Peterson, Assistant Curator for Artifacts. The presentation included collateral material and imprinted premium items containing the brand's distinctive logo showing a modern interpretation of Ceres, the Roman goddess of the harvest, upon whose head sits a cannabis-leaf and hops crown.

Keith Villa remarked, "History Colorado Center's collecting initiative affirms what I've been thinking since leaving Coors in January 2018 - we really are making history with Grainwave."

As James Peterson donned white archivist gloves to accept the First Release Grainwave four-pack, he said, "This donation could help us tell a more inclusive, contemporary story about Colorado's $3 billion craft brewing industry - as well as its trailblazing cannabis industry. The CERIA four-pack has the potential to be a great addition to our collection."

Later in the year, Dr. Villa will participate in the museum's oral history project focusing on Colorado business leaders.

CERIA's Grainwave is brewed as a beer with blood orange peel and coriander, then dealcoholized and infused with a microdosed 5 mg. of fast acting THC that leaves no cannabis flavor. Sixty-four calorie CERIA is currently available in limited edition 10 oz. (296 ml) aluminum bottles and four-pack cartons. A 10 mg. THC IPA, a 2.5 mg. THC American Light Lager, and other versions are also in the works.

THC is the key psychoactive ingredient from cannabis plants that affects how one feels by creating the unique sensation - the "high" - associated with marijuana.

Ceria brewing announces key supply chain partners

Sleeping Giant, O’Fallon, and Keef Are Seen as Essential for Success of New Grainwave THC-Infused Beer

ARVADA, Colorado (December 19, 2018)

CERIA Brewing Company, the Colorado craft brewery founded by Keith Villa, Ph.D., the former brewmaster of Blue Moon, has announced three key supply chain partners that have been essential for the company’s launch of Colorado’s first THC-infused craft beer. The company officially launched its Grainwave Belgian-style White Ale in mid-December.

Dr. Villa has selected two breweries – Sleeping Giant Brewing Company of Denver and O’Fallon Brewing of St. Louis – that will be responsible for brewing his proprietary formulation, and then running the brew through the dealcoholization process that is required for THC-infused beer.

Sleeping Giant Brewing Company is the first and largest dedicated contract brewery in the western U.S. It caters to the craft beer industry and offers quality brewing, state of the art technology, industry leading processes and expandable capacity along with a high level of customer service unique to the industry.

O’Fallon Brewing was founded in St. Louis in 2000 and has been a purveyor of fine craft beer since that time. The brewery has been producing dealcoholized beer using the same method required by CERIA for the past two years.

CERIA chose Keef Bottling as its manufacturing and distribution partner in Colorado. Keef Bottling’s state licensees will process and infuse CERIA beers with THC, and provide distribution to their network of legal dispensaries in Colorado.

Jodi Villa, CEO and co-founder of CERIA said, “We also plan to partner with Keef Bottling and its licensees in northern California and Nevada as our products are introduced to consumers in those markets by second quarter 2019 – there’s already strong anticipation for its availability at licensed dispensaries in those states.”

Keef Bottling develops, produces, and distributes multiple cannabis-infused products through its licensed distribution network in Colorado, California, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica. Erik Knutson, CEO of Keef Brands, adds, “We plan and expect to have licensed manufacturing and distribution in all legalized states and are currently in active dialogue to make certain this comes to fruition.”

Founded in Boulder, Colo., Keef has been at the forefront of innovation around social cannabis product development and education since 2010.

Each 10-oz. (296 ml) serving of CERIA’s Grainwave will contain precise 5 mg doses of fast-acting THC with a similar onset time as alcohol.

DE-ALCOHOLIZED WHITE ALE INFUSED WITH THC

New Cannabis Beer Rolls Out Mid-December to Colorado Dispensaries

ARVADA, Colorado (Nov. 12, 2018) – Rarely does a new beverage come along that promises to shake up an entire industry or create another segment entirely. In this case, de-alcoholized craft beer with cannabis. The idea of combining the pleasant sensations of THC with the popularity of something so democratic and socially acceptable as craft beer is the brainchild of former Blue Moon brewmaster Keith Villa, Ph.D. who, along with his wife, Jodi Villa, founders of Arvada, Colo.-based CERIA, Inc., are introducing CERIA™ Grainwave™ Belgian-Style White Ale infused with THC.

The two formed CERIA, Inc. (rhymes with “area”) in January 2018 to introduce a line of non-alcoholic craft beverages to be infused with THC, a key psychoactive ingredient from cannabis plants that affects how one feels by creating the unique sensation – the “high” – associated with marijuana.

For almost a year, the Villas have been on a mission to redefine the way society thinks about and engages with cannabis. Their answer is to combine it with beer, one of the most socially acceptable beverage categories worldwide.

To that end, CERIA Inc., doing business as CERIA Brewing Company, will launch a limited edition First Release of de-alcoholized Grainwave Belgian-Style White Ale in Colorado in mid-December. Each 10-oz. (296 ml) serving will contain precise 5 mg doses of fast-acting THC with a similar onset time as alcohol.

It is anticipated that future CERIA releases will contain infusions ranging from 2.5 to 10 mg of THC as the brand launches new beer styles and expands from Colorado to California, Nevada, and other states where the use of recreational marijuana has been legalized.

The Villas, both University of Colorado graduates and native Coloradans, note that CERIA Grainwave, containing malted wheat, oats, Hallertauer Tradition hops from Germany, along with both blood orange peel and coriander, will come in at 64 calories, two-thirds less caloric than traditional craft beer.

“By infusing a great tasting craft beer with THC, we’ll empower all adults over age 21 to tap into the magic of cannabis through this new spin on a Belgian classic,” Dr. Villa says, pointing to the brand’s slogan, Cannabis pro Omnibus™ (“Cannabis for the People”).

He continued, “For those who desire the sensations of marijuana, cannabis de-alcoholized craft beer represents a more socially acceptable way to consume THC, certainly more socially acceptable than smoking a joint, or consuming a sugary edible. The THC-infused non-alcoholic craft beer consumer can join the party without feeling ostracized. Besides, it’s a lot more refreshing.”

First Release

CERIA’s first release will be brewed and de-alcoholized under Dr. Villa’s guidance and exact specifications. Next step is infusion with 5 mg doses of THC at a licensed marijuana infused products (MIP) facility in Denver just prior to bottling, pursuant to Colorado Retail Marijuana Code and corresponding rules.

Cases of CERIA Grainwave will come off the line in early December and arrive on dispensary shelves soon thereafter. The expected retail price will be approximately $9 per bottle, under $36 for a 4-pack. This is similar to the price range of a quality craft beer served in a restaurant or tavern.

An American Light Lager and an IPA are planned to be released by Q1 2019.

Packaging will adhere to all Colorado regulations including product tracking data and a THC warning. Consumers must be a minimum age of 21 and will be reminded to experience CERIA responsibly.

Doug Christoph, CERIA’s chief marketing officer explains, “The package is a subtle blend of the two worlds the brand inhabits - cannabis and beer. This establishes both its beer credentials and the pleasant sensations of cannabis.

“The midnight blue color and traditional typeface convey a trustworthy tone, and the golden yellow color is a recognized beer cue in packaging. These are balanced by the modern interpretation of Ceres, the Roman goddess of the harvest, upon whose head sits a cannabis-leaf and hops crown. Beer style and THC level information are labeled side-by-side against a complementary lighter blue background to draw the eye and to enhance shopability,” Christoph says.

“The three beer styles and THC levels will be easily distinguishable from one another and will be highly legible from behind the dispensary counter and inside the cooler.”

Keith Villa is one of the few people in the world to receive a doctorate in brewing science based upon his dissertation on complex biochemical reactions in beer. Dr. Villa was the creator and head brewmaster of Blue Moon Brewing Company until his retirement from MillerCoors in January 2018 after 32 years of service. His wife Jodi is a civil engineer who serves as CERIA, Inc.’s CEO.

Keith and Jodi Villa Launch CERIA BEVERAGES

ARVADA, Colorado – When Keith Villa, Ph.D., the creator and head brewmaster of Blue Moon Brewing Company, announced his retirement from MolsonCoors in January 2018 after 32 years of service, he hinted about plans to create a new beverage product with “cutting edge” ingredients.

Those plans are now coming to fruition with the official launch of CERIA™ BEVERAGES (ceriabeverages.com), based in the Denver suburb of Arvada, Colorado. Among the company’s goals this year is to introduce a line of cannabis-infused non-alcoholic craft beverages containing THC, a key psychoactive chemical from cannabis plants that affects how one feels by creating the “high.”

Unlike most other cannabis beverages, CERIA’s products will be designed to deliver a consistent user experience with the same onset time as alcohol.

Keith Villa will serve as co-founder and brewmaster of CERIA (pronounced “SAIR-ee-uh”). The other co-founder is his wife Jodi Villa, a civil engineer who will serve as CEO. Based at the couple’s operations in Arvada, CERIA derives its name from the university campus in Brussels, Belgium, where Keith became one of the few people in the world to receive a doctorate in brewing science based upon his dissertation on complex biochemical reactions in beer.

“I’m ready to introduce another high-impact brand to the industry again, this time with a new line of custom cannabis-infused craft beers. Today, the opportunity and the demand are here, inviting Americans to enjoy a more social way of consuming cannabis – by drinking rather than by smoking it or through ingestion of edibles.”

To deliver upon the fast-acting, consistent, trusted psychoactive experience, CERIA is working closely with a leading cannabinoid research firm.

Cannabis formulations – containing THC and other cannabinoids and terpenes – will be processed and infused by licensed marijuana processors, bottled and/or canned on-site by the licensee, and then sold chilled in licensed dispensaries, first in Colorado, then in other states where the use of recreational marijuana is legal.

CERIA has also tapped leading beverage industry advisement firm, InterContinental Beverage Capital (IBC), to assist in setting up business operations and in the development of its strategic and commercialization plans.

Keith Villa’s plans for a cannabis-infused beverage with top-quality craft beer taste will be offered in legalized cannabis states by the end of 2018 in at least three strengths – light, regular, and full-bodied – with a variety of sensations. Consumers must be a minimum age of 21 and use the product responsibly.

“CERIA will be brewed just like an alcoholic craft beer to maintain its beer taste and aroma, but will then be de-alcoholized prior to the infusion of cannabis,” Keith Villa explains.

The Villas are enthusiastic about their new entrepreneurial venture and know their way around a brewery. “When Keith created Blue Moon in 1995, the cloudy, unfiltered Belgian-style beer that would later be served with an orange slice, he in effect, introduced craft beer to the mainstream American beer drinker. It changed the beer industry and was even a question on the TV game show ‘Jeopardy,’” said Jodi Villa. “Since then it has grown to become the largest craft beer in the country.”

The Villas, both University of Colorado graduates and native Coloradans, note that the new brand, whose name is currently being developed, will also be less caloric than traditional beer, due to the elimination of alcohol.
